Apple Cider

Apple Cider

Fall brings Apple Cider as the go to drink at festivals and farmers markets.

Apples in the beginning weren’t eaten but they were fermented into alcoholic beverages. It is believed that the Egyptians first fermented apples and brew them into beer.

From there cider began to spread around the world and eventually made its way to America. The first apple trees that Johnny Appleseed planted were actually meant for cider suppliers not pie bakers.

Cider was for centuries the drink of choice. Over the years the popularity for cider has declined.

In recent years cider (the alcoholic cider) has made a comeback. You will more likely find a cider on your neighborhood bar taps more than you will find apple cider (non-alcoholic) in the grocery stores.

Either way, Fall is a great time to enjoy a cider.

Enjoy a hot apple cider or your favorite brewed cider.

Maybe even try making your own apple cider. Making apple cider is fairly easy.

When my kids were little we made apple cider in the crockpot, but for us it wasn’t just any apple cider, we spiced it up (not with alcoholic-that was added afterwards for adult only) and made our own special ‘Witches Brew”.

You can speed it up by using store bought apple cider and then just spicing it up in the crockpot or on the stove.
