The Lifeboat of Family
Family. Mom, Dad, Brothers, Sisters, Grandparents, Cousins, Close friends. Family is the people we were raised with, are related to or have adopted as family. There are many different types of families. We may have our core family and a second family.
Families are our foundation. Families provide us with our deepest happiness and our greatest pain. We argue, we worry, yet we find that family provides us with our greatest moments of joy. We do not even always like all our family members, nor do we have to, yet there is always someone in our family we like and can count on at any given time. Family relationships can be trying at times yet underneath we know that they are always there for us.
A family provides support, loving and caring for other family members. Family provides security and a sense of belonging, making each person within the family feel important, valued, and respected.
We need to feel a sense of belonging to a larger social group and feel socially connected to our family and friends. Having a strong network of supportive family and friends helps enhance our mental well-being.
A lifeboat is a small boat to rescue those in trouble at sea. It is usually contains lifesaving provisions.
Family is your lifeboat when you need support in difficult times, or times of doubt, or loneliness. If you need anything your family will rescue you. They will pick you up when you are adrift in your life. They are always ready to help you and to have fun and enjoy life with you.
Life happens, people come and go, things change, but our foundation of support is always there. The people you can count on when you are in need. When you need someone to talk to, to hear a familiar voice.
When you head out to sea, to take risks, to be true to yourself, to live life to the fullest, you are supported by your family. Through all the ups and downs of your life, and the ups and down of family, they are your lifeboat.
