Apple Pie

Apple Pie

An apple pie is a pie filled with apples, originated in England. It is often served with whipped cream, ice cream, or cheddar cheese. It is generally double-crusted, with pastry both above and below the filling; the upper crust may be solid or latticed.

Apple pies or apple tarts have been around since the middle ages. The first apple tarts didn’t have sugar in them and the pastry was not meant to be eaten but were just a container. Once sugar was more available then the pastry was then made to be eaten as well. When the English arrived in the Americas they brought their customs and favorite foods with them.

Yet we think of Apple Pie as American.
