Have a Tea Party

Tea has been around from about four thousand years. It originated in China where there are varying stories of the origin of tea. Most often we think of tea as an English tradition.

Tea did not reach England until 1610. When the Dutch imported it from China. The first tea parties actually originated in the Holland. Tea was so expansive only the rich had tea parties.

It was in the 17th century when tea became popular in England. Afternoon tea became popular in the Victorian Era. Tea was usually served between 4 and 7 pm. It was a considered a refreshment between lunch and dinner. There were the high society teas and country afternoon teas.

I have been a tea lover all my life. I must always have my morning tea before I start my day. A highlight of my cruise trips and often of my other travels is having afternoon tea.

Afternoon teas called High Tea is an elegant experience. But less formal afternoon tea is so much fun. The tea is the foundation of the event but the focus is on getting together being social.

The benefits of drinking tea include:

  • Reduces your risk of stroke.
  • Sharpens your memory.
  • Improves your digestion.
  • Reduces your blood pressure.
  • Strengthens your immune system.
  • Curbs your stress and anxiety.
  • Boosts energy

Gather your best china, make some simple sandwiches, pasties and desserts. Make a pot or several different pots of tea and gather your friends for a wonderful afternoon.

You can have your tea party indoors or in a garden. Your tea can be a big formal social gathering, or a quiet moment of a cup of tea for yourself.

Take the time to try several different types of tea, from traditional black tea like Earl Grey, to Green tea, Oolong tea, and Darjeeling to the varieties of Herbal teas.

What’s your favorite type of tea?

Take the time today to enjoy a cup of tea.
