Sky Watching

Sky Watching

We think of sky watching as star gazing but you can sky watch day or night.

How about a day of sky watching?

Sky watching in the day can teach you about weather patterns.

Is the sun shining today? Where is it in the sky as you observe it? Can you make a guess of what time it is? (Remember to not look directly into the sun)

Is the sky blue or are there clouds in the sky? What shades of blue is the sky?

What kind of clouds are in the sky today? Do they cover the whole sky or just part of the sky? Are they white and puffy, or flat or a combination? Or are they dark and grey? Do you know what kind of clouds they are?

Is it raining? Is there a rainbow?

Can you see the moon?

Can you see a planet? Did you know that it is possible to see the moon and possible Venus, Jupiter and Mars during the day? How about a comet or a meteor?

Or a plane?  Satellites or the International Space Station?

Have you seen an eclipse before?

Watch the Sky for a while today. What do you see? What changes occur? Can you predict the weather that you will be having later?

Draw or paint what you see in the sky. Or describe it in writing. Write a poem or a song about what you see in the sky.
