Cultivate Contentment

Contentment is having peace of mind, of being satisfied with what is happening right now in the present moment. It is a feeling of all is well, all will be well. Being happy with what is, right now. Contentment is being at peace and accepting of who you are and where you are in your life.

Inside contentment is happiness. Not the excited full of energy happiness but a peaceful feeling of serenity, gladness, satisfaction, pleasure or gratification.

Happiness is often rooted in an experience or event outside you. Contentment is a longer lasting rooted happiness within you.

If you are content, you feel a sense of peace from within no matter what is actually going on around you. Someone who is content is accepting of what is, non-judgmental, open minded, flexible, and is able to view things from different perspectives.

To cultivate contentment:

  • Live in the moment
  • Be grateful
  • Appreciative of what is good and working in your life
  • Learn to appreciate the little things
  • Slow down
  • Spend time with family and friends
  • Let people in your life know you appreciate them
  • Don’t compare yourself with others, be accepting of yourself and others
  • Be positive, look for and try and see the positive in every situation, reverse any negative thoughts
  • Acknowledge what is good and working in your life and yourself and others
  • Keep learning and moving forward, embrace curiosity
  • Nourish your mind, body and soul
  • Keep up your mindfulness practice

Being content isn’t easy we always seem to be striving for to something bigger and better. That puts you trying to live in the future. Be where you are as you move forward.

Awareness, mindfulness, patience, understanding, acceptance are keys to living a contented life. A contented life is a life filled with happiness that isn’t dependent on what does or doesn’t happen. It is found in the peace and contentment of living and experience this moment in time.
